Sunset 101
|
|
| Quote: | | Sunset 101: When the sun is high in the sky, it generally appears white because all wavelengths of visible light reach an observer's eyes with almost equal intensity. As the sun sinks toward the horizon, sunlight enters the atmosphere at a much lower angle and consequently sunlight has to travel through a longer distance of atmosphere to reach the eye. The thick layer of air, dust and haze scatters away much of the shorter wavelengths (blue & violet) and the only light which penetrates through the atmosphere are the longer wavelengths of light (yellow, orange and red) which produce colorful sunsets. Red sunsets are often observed from a beach because of the high concentration of salt particles suspended in the air over the oceans. |

| Quote: | Ode to the Bubble
Bubbles, bubbles all around -
Both big and small ones to be found!
Some offer fun and tricks for you,
While others have their jobs to do!
The bubbles that you blow up high
Can catch a breeze and almost fly!
With bubble trick you'll be the best
And show your skill to all the rest!
Detergent bubbles can get mean
To get your clothes and dishes clean.
Their power comes from plants or oil -
They do their job to bust your soil!
It's true that bubbles can be fun
But then, when all their work is done
It's down the drain to meet their fate
And Poof! They just evaporate!

A Penny, a Nickel or a Dime?
|
|
| Quote: | Penny, penny,
Easily spent
Copper brown
and worth one cent.
Nickel, nickel,
Thick and fat,
You're worth five cents.
I know that.
Dime, dime,
Little and thin,
I remember,
You're worth ten.
Quarter, quarter
Big and bold,
You're worth twenty-five
I am told! |

Unity
|
|
Representing the people's unity of Dipolog City's three (3) distinct demographics - the Christians, the Muslims and the Subanen.
| Quote: | The conflict is over, the results are now known.
The will of the people to get united has clearly been shown.
We should show by our thoughts, our words and our deeds
That unity is just what our country needs.
Let's all get together. Let bitterness pass.
I'll hug your elephant. You kiss my ass.

A THOUGHT FOR ASIA
|
|
I am sharing images inspired by the recent tragic event, the tsunami, that devastated some asian neighbors. The unbelievable magnitude of this natural disaster is at first overwhelming. But it evokes personal feelings that deserve attention as well. We each have our own relationship with loss. Sharing our pain is an important precedent to moving on with our lives. Open to all who wish to make a contribution.

Boat Beggars
|
|
They will ask for your loose change to throw them into the water and they will dive and swim
to collect the coins while it goes down. If you throw plenty, they'll be competing each other.
They place the coins in their mouths while still underwater specially if there are still coins
beneath.
When ships arrived in Dumaguete in the early morn better expect these people to be present
as long as there is a good weather and the water is clear.

Barbed Wire
|
|
During the Spanish American War, Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders chose to defend their
camps with the help of barbed fencing. In turn-of-the-century South Africa, five-strand
fences were linked to blockhouses sheltering British troops from the encroachment of
Boer commandos. During World War I, barbed wire was used as a military weapon. It was
a formidable barrier along the front, stretching from Switzerland to the English Channel. Even
now, barbed wire is widely used to protect and safeguard military installations and to establish
territorial boundaries. It has also emerged as a commonly recognized instrument for prisoner
confinement; the image of a corpse caught on the wires of a concentration camp fence has
become the emblem of war's ravages. Today, barbed wire is often part of the containment wall
of prisons all over the world.

THE FLY
|
|
Little Fly
Thy summers play,
My thoughtless hand
Has brush'd away.
Am not I
A fly like thee?
Or art not thou
A man like me?
For I dance
And drink and sing
Till some blind hand
Shall brush my wing.
If thought is life
And strength and breath;
And the want
of thought is death;
Then am I
A happy fly,
If I live,
Or if I die.
---William Blake
